Afterglow

This was my first time hiking from Makapuʻu to Hahaʻione. We started after four in the afternoon, late for a hike that long. By the time I took this photograph, the light was fading and we still had hours of ridge ahead of us.

I had never seen Waimānalo from that high up at night. Warm color lingered beneath the clouds while lights began to appear below. I stopped to photograph it, knowing how much of the ridge we would have to walk in the dark. We reached Hahaʻione around 1:30 in the morning. It was a hard night, but views like this made it worth it.
